Service Talk
Have a question about servicing your Mercedes? Chances are we have the answer.
I have been experiencing my brake light coming on and going off occasionally, but not on a daily basis. Can you please advise me if this is a possible malfunction? Or what should I do?
First, we need to determine which brake light is coming on for your vehicle. Is it the red "brake" light or the amber brake pad wear light?
If it is the amber brake bad or lining light, which is a circle with dash lines around it, then you are more likely going to need brake pads replaced as that lamp indicates that your brake pads are getting worn down to a critical level and need to be replaced. If that is the case, then you should schedule an appointment to have the brakes inspected.
If it is a red "brake" warning light, that can be caused by various items from low brake fluid levels to a problem with the master cylinder. We suggest that you come into our service department to have the potential issue addressed.
Can you advise me what to do in case of an accident?
Step 1: If possible, stop your car in a safe and visible place. If the car cannot be moved, turn on your hazard lights. Turn off the ignition and be careful when exciting your vehicle.
Step 2: Determine if anyone is injured. Do not move an injured person.
Step 3: Call the police (911) immediately. Report any injuries.
Step 4: If another vehicle is involved, get the other vehicle's year, make, model and license plate number; the driver's name, adres and license number; and the name of their insurance company. If the driver does not own the car, get teh name of the car's woner. Write down names and addresses of passengers and witnesses.
Step 5: Write down the names and badge numbers of the police and emergency personnel at the scene. Ask the officier how to obtain a copy of the police report for your records and insurance claim.
Step 6: Write an account of what happened, including the time of day, weather, hazards, road conditions and driving speed. Draw a picture of the site, showing stop signs, signal lights, etc. Try to measure skid marks and determine the point of impact. Note any damage already on the other cars involved. If a camera is available, take pictures of the accident. Make copies of the pictures.
Step 7: Report the accident to your insurance agent or company as soon as possible.
Step 8: Call the EuroMotorcars Bodyshop at 301-868-9500 and schedule an appointment.
